NICO CASAL |
Nico Casal is a classical trained pianist and film composer born in Galicia (Spain). He is now back, based in Madrid, following six years living in London where he moved in 2011 to study a Master in Film Music at City University.
While living in London Nico composed music for many prominent films including the 2016 Oscar Winner short film “Stutterer” and Netflix´s Spanish film “Sunday´s Illness”, which earned him a Premios Feroz Nomination for his score (Spanish version of Golden Globes Awards). In April 2019 Nico released his debut album “Alone”. It was born on a solitary Sunday in Nico's room in London. “Alone” was a very personal account of difficult break up Nico was going through at the time and a turning point, a moment of resolution at the end of a difficult couple of years in London. The album was released with PIAS´s imprint “Point of Departure Records” followed a tour of Spain and UK, including headline show at London´s famous Southbank Centre, as well as festival appearances at Eurosonic (The Netherlands), The Reeperbahn (Germany), BIME and San Sebastian Jazz Festival (both in Spain). The lead single “Ready to talk” was premiered on BBC 6 in UK by Lauren Laverne and Radio 3 by Tomás Fernando in Spain. Nico´s Youtube channel is home to several live performances as well as his notorious covers of artists such as James Blake, PJ Harvey and Jon Hopkins “Singularity”, which was premiered on The Quietus. Nico's music can also be heard in advertising campaigns around the world including Wimbledon, Adidas, British Airways, Nurofen and in 2016 Nico received a Music & Sound Award UK nomination for his work on HSBC´s Pink Ladies Campaign. In 2018 he released the EP ¨Chapter One” with Spanish electronic music producer and The xx remixer Edu Imbernon. Last year, after the release of his debut album “Alone”, what was set to be a busy festival performing period was then halted through a serious injury to Nico´s right hand. After cancelling several performances, composition projects and recording sessions what followed was an intense 8 months healing process. Now Nico is back, working on a second album, several film scores and ready to perform again with new series of EP´s titled “Stories” set for release throughout 2020. |
