MICHAEL GATT |
Michael Gatt is a composer for film and television, as well as the Creative Director of Gattsound. He has been blessed with an extraordinary life. Touring with various bands, he has shared the stage with the likes of the Black Eyed Peas, Squeeze, Social Distortion and even Spinal Tap, yes as in, “This one goes to eleven!” Taking a sabbatical from performing, Michael spent years traveling the world with nothing but his guitar and a backpack. He visited over 50 countries, learned Spanish and Portuguese, and was able to broaden his musical horizons jamming with locals all round the world.
Upon his return, Michael had the chance to score a show for Shark Week and was instantly hooked on the story telling nature of long form composing. This lead to a string of shows for Discovery Channel, including four of the highest rated shark week shows of all time. When Discovery released the 25th anniversary album commemorating a quarter century of Shark Week music, Michael’s music was chosen to kick off the album. Shortly thereafter, Michael was given an opportunity to score a short film for the Despicable Me Minions franchise. This led to numerous collaborations with Illumination and Universal, including six more short films featuring characters from Minions, The Secret Life of Pets, and SING. From his success scoring the short films, Michael went on to score the music for the Minions Mayhem theme park ride for Universal Studios Japan. In 2017, Michael scored the grindhouse inspired TV series, Blood Drive, for the Syfy channel. A true anthology, each episode leaned into a different grindhouse genre and the score followed suit covering everything from Spaghetti Western, to 80’s horror, to classic Kung Fu. After Blood Drive, Michael went on to score Braid, a psychological thriller starring Madeline Brewer (Handmaid’s Tale/Orange is the New Black). Currently, Michael is scoring the DC animated series DC Superhero Girls for Warner Bros. |
