JARED FABER |
Jared is a multi-Grammy winning and Emmy nominated composer for film & TV and a songwriter/producer. A native New Yorker and alumnus of New York’s famed High School of Performing Arts, Jared took an interest in music from an early age as a guitar player, immersing himself in the New York music scene, while studying and playing with the best that the city had to offer. After high school he continued his music education at Berklee College of Music, studying jazz arranging and composition.
Fresh out of college, Jared found opportunities writing music for some of the early animated video games, but quickly segued into the world of TV & film scoring. He initially found opportunities writing music for Nickelodeon and “ghost writing” for other NY composers on various children’s and animated series. In 1999 the opportunity to move to Los Angeles came in the way of “As Told by Ginger”. “Ginger” was the first show developed by writer & executive producer Emily Kapnek and the first of many on which the two would collaborate. Jared and Emily penned the theme song performed by Macy Gray who at the time was just coming off of her first Grammy win. Following the success of “Ginger”, Jared was the composer for several animated series including “The Mr. Men Show” and “Clifford’s Puppy Days” for which he was nominated for an Emmy award in the category of best composer/musical director. Changing gears stylistically, Jared then went on to score shows such as “Being Bobby Brown” and Ice Cube’s “Friday: the animated series”. A first chance at network episodic TV came in 2006 for the ABC show “Emily’s Reasons Why Not” starring Heather Graham. After an abrupt cancellation of “Emily’s Reason’s Why Not”, Jared decided to take a trip to Havana, Cuba to continue working on a project he had started with with partner Kool Kojak. The two produced Urban Legend’s “Tranquilidad Cubana” released through Jared’s own Blind Lemon Music label. The album, largely recorded in Havana, saw critical acclaim topping the CMJ world music charts and was a favorite of LA’s KCRW as well as independent and college radio around the country. They followed up with Urban Legend’s “Tropical Techniques” which featured a variety of Latin artists. Urban Legend was the first of many Latin/Spanish language projects Jared would become involved in. This ultimately lead to him co-writing and co-producing an album for La Ley front man Beto Cuevas’ 2012 release on Warner Latino, “Transformación”. That album won the Latin Grammy for best Pop/Rock album in 2013. In 2015 Jared co-wrote the single for Alex Cuba’s album Healer which also went on to win a Latin Grammy in the best singer songwriter category. Also as a result of his project “Urban Legend”, in 2011 Jared was asked to be the Musical Director & Band Leader for Spike TV’s “Guys Choice Awards”. He arranged the music and performed with the 12-piece band on the live show. “Guys Choice” featured an A-list celebrity line up. Moving into feature films, Jared composed the score to Sony Pictures’ “Mardi Gras - Spring Break”. The film also featured a number of songs Jared co-wrote and produced. Jared was the song producer for the film “The Wedding Ringer” starring Kevin Hart & Josh Gadd. The film included several on camera band performances. Jared put the on camera bands together, produced the music and worked with the actors pre-recording the music. As a songwriter and producer his music has been featured in TV shows and films including “Smurfs 3D”, “CSI Miami”, “My Family Wedding” “Nip/Tuck” (F/X), “Cane” (NBC), Dexter (Showtime), Jake in Progress (NBC) and Ice Cube’s “The Long Shots”. Jared is more recently known as the composer for ABC’s “Suburgatory”, as well as ABC’s “Selfie” and “Splitting Up Together”. He also recently worked on WB’s Teen Titan’s Go To The Movies for which he not only served as the score composer but also wrote and produced the songs as in this animated feature. Current projects include “War & Pierce” a blues/americana duo Jared is producing. They have been featured on NPR’s World Café and our enjoying airplay around the country. Jared continues to divide his time between TV & film work as well as songwriting & record production. |
