James Righton is a songwriter, performer, composer and producer based in London. James spent 10 years as a founding member of Klaxons. Over the last few years James has embarked upon a celebrated solo career as well as working on a diverse array of soundtracks for film, television and advertising.
As a member of Klaxons he released 3 albums, won a Mercury Prize, had a gold-selling debut album, was nominated for an Ivor Novello, played a live duet with Rihanna at the BRIT Awards and supported Bjork, Daft Punk and Blur. Klaxons music has featured in numerous television shows and advertising campaigns. Since the band ended in 2015 James has released three solo albums (two under his name, one as Shock Machine). He has co-written songs with musicians Soulwax/2manydjs, The Chemical Brothers, Riton and Hinds as well as playing keyboards / guitar on the Arctic Monkeys ‘Tranquility Base Hotel and Casino’. Alongside Tom Rowlands (The Chemical Brothers) he co-wrote the theme song in Joe Wright’s Young Vic production of ‘the Life of Galileo’. He has composed music for Dior, Tate, Frieze and Fritz Hansen and his music has been used in numerous television shows and films including Shameless, Skins, Shut Eye and Les Cinq Diables. In 2020 ABBA invited James to be the Musical Director for their highly acclaimed ABBA Voyage stage production, Benny Anderson even returned the favour with a guest spot on James’ 2022 album ‘Jim, I’m Still Here’. James has worked closely with writer/director Simon Amstell. He scored Simon’s short film ‘William’, the feature film ‘Benjamin’ and the Netflix special ‘Set Free’. James is due to start work on the film ‘Maria’ directed by Simon Amstell and starring Felicity Jones in January 2022. |
