Alex Baranowski is a multi award-winning and nominated composer and graduate of Paul McCartney’s LIPA based in London. Scores for film include the twice BAFTA nominated feature McCullin (Curzon), Nureyev (Universal Film), A Christmas Carol (2020) starring Carrey Mulligan and Andy Serkis, Warner Bros’ The Windermere Children (2020) and Alcove Entertainment’s critically acclaimed A Gaza Weekend. Alex also notably scored Gillian Anderson’s directorial debut, The Departure and BBC’s Staged starring David Tennant and Michael Sheen. In 2021 he won the Les Arcs award for Harry Wootlif’s acclaimed True Things starring Ruth Wilson and Tom Burke.
Nominated for a Tony Award for The Cripple of Inishmaan on Broadway, Alex has composed music for several theatre productions around the world, many of which broadcast to cinemas; working with directors including Danny Boyle, Sir Nicholas Hytner and Rupert Goold. His ballet adaptation of 1984 for Northern Ballet won the prestigious South Bank Award for Dance after a sold out run at Sadler’s Wells. Alex’s work for the BBC has included collaborating with legendary singer Sir John Tomlinson and London Metropolitan Orchestra for the BBC’s Theme for the 2018 World Cup, as well as composing music and sound design for BBC Two’s multi award winning new channel idents. In 2016 Alex composed the score to multi-Oscar nominated director Wes Anderson’s quirky ‘Come Together’ film for H&M. Alex has also collaborated with Mercury Prize winning band The xx alongside the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra as well as Jungle, Clean Bandit, Underworld and virtuoso violinist Daniel Hope for the Spheres record which reached number 1 in the UK and number 3 in the US Classical Billboard charts. 2023 saw Alex co-score Daniel Kaluuya’s debut feature, The Kitchen, alongside Labrinth, which premiered at LFF, as well as Gaumont/Netflix film Locked In. |
